Match Notes
TULSA, Okla. – After playing its last four matches at Donald W. Reynolds Center, the Tulsa volleyball team heads northeast this weekend for a pair of American Athletic Conference matches. The Golden Hurricane (12-9, 5-3 The American) start a four-game road trip in Philadelphia at Temple on Friday at 6 p.m., and then square off against UConn on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Tulsa's match in the City of Brotherly Love is the first contest of the second half of conference play. Tulsa started American competition hosting six of its first eight matches and going 5-3, which is tied for third with Tulane in the Western Division. The Golden Hurricane will now look to pull off six road wins over the next month.

Temple head coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam is in his ninth season atop the helm. Picked to finish eighth in the American Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Owls (10-9, 1-7) started the 2019 campaign at 9-0 overall, sweeping eight of nine opponents. However, conference action has not favored the Owls. Temple is just 1-7 in The American, and has lost three straight. A year ago, Temple finished at 8-22 overall and 5-13 in league play. It marked the end of four consecutive 20+ win seasons. Friday's match is the 11th meeting in program history between Tulsa and Temple. Temple leads Tulsa 7-3 all-time, but the Golden Hurricane swept the Owls twice in 2018.

UConn is led by first-year head coach Ellen Herman-Kimball. She started the season as the interim head coach, but had her tag removed on Monday. Herman-Kimball is in her sixth season overall with the Husky volleyball program. UConn was voted to finish 11th in the preseason coaches' poll. Last season the Huskies (8-12, 2-6) finished eighth in the league standings, posting a 15-16 overall record and 7-11 mark in The American. The two programs will play for the 11th time on Sunday with TU leading the all-time series, 11-2.
