Davtyan, Poppe Capture Wins in Singles Consolation Qualifying Draw

TULSA, Okla. - Junior Shura Poppe and sophomore Marina Davtyan each picked up a win on Tuesday in the Singles Consolation Qualifying Draw at the Saint Francis Health System ITA Women's All-American Championships. The women's qualifying draws are being played at the Case Tennis Center at LaFortune Park.
Davtyan upset 55th-ranked Tatum Rice of Arkansas in straight sets 6-3, 6-3. Poppe rallied from a set down to defeat Purdue's Ena Babic in three-set 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.
The two would then face ranked opponents in their second round matches Davtyan pushed No. 89 Kaitlin Staines of Tennessee. Davtyan won the opening set 6-4, but would eventually fall in a tiebreak (4-6, 6-3, 7-6(3)). Poppe suffered a 7-6(3), 6-3 defeat to Ohio State's Kolie Allen.
Seniors Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner are set to compete in the singles and doubles main draws on Wednesday, Oct. 9.
