Tulsa's Comeback Falls Short in Four-Set Loss to SMU on Senior Day

TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa volleyball team saw its comeback fall short on Senior Day against SMU, as the Mustangs defeated the Golden Hurricane in four sets [25-20, 25-16, 23-25, 25-22] at Donald W. Reynolds Center. The Golden Hurricane (15-12, 8-6 The American) are now 19-29 all-time against the Mustangs (17-7, 10-4).

The matched also served as the final home contest for seniors Taylor Horsfall, Mariah Pardo, and Maddie Rhoder.

Four consecutive attacking errors by SMU gave Tulsa a seven-point lead at 14-7 in the fourth set. It would be the largest lead of the game for the Golden Hurricane. Following SMU's second time out of the set, the Mustangs got the hot hand. They used a 12-3 run to erase the Golden Hurricane advantage and capture their first lead of the game at 17-16. Tulsa would trim the deficit to two at 20-18, 23-21, and 24-22, but the Mustangs held on to sweep the season series.

Tulsa held the lead at least once in all four sets vs. SMU. The two teams combined for 13 ties and five lead changes.

In the third set, the Golden Hurricane broke a 16-16 tie with a 5-0 run. Aysu Dalogullari recorded a service ace, Pardo added a kill, Callie Cook had two block assists, and Kayley Cassaday and Hannah Overmyer each tallied one block assist. SMU closed to within a point on two occasions late, but Cook's fifth kill of the set trimmed the deficit in half.

Tulsa finished with a .153 attacking percentage. The Golden Hurricane tallied 52 kills on 189 total swings with 23 attacking errors. SMU recorded a .244 attacking clip. The Mustangs ended with 64 kills on 176 total hits with 21 attacking errors.

Dilara Gedikoglu paced Tulsa with her sixth consecutive double-double and 14th of the season. She led TU with 14 kills and added 14 digs.

Cook finished with 11 kills. Defensively, she registered 3.0 total blocks (six block assists). The junior middle blocker moved into third place at TU in career total blocks with 352.

Overmeyer was one dig shy of a double-double. She posted double-figure kills for the third time this year, finishing with 10.

Taylor Horsfall chipped in 30+ digs for the third straight match and the seventh time of the campaign, ending with 33.

Roosa Rautio led TU with 26 assists, and Pardo added 18 dimes.

Rhoder finished with 3.0 total blocks (one solo, four block assists). Maggie Hembree tallied 2.0 total blocks (one solo, two block assists).

The Golden Hurricane return to action on Friday at Wichita State (7-19, 4-10). The match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
