Golden Hurricane Secure Eight Wins on Day Two of Tulsa Invite

TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa Women's Tennis team captured eight wins on Saturday on day two of the Tulsa Invite. The three-day invitational features the Golden Hurricane competing against Central Arkansas, Houston, and Wichita State in singles and doubles play at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

The Golden Hurricane started the morning off playing the Cougars in the first round of doubles competition.

Fifth-ranked Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner came from behind, as they won three straight games to defeat Sophie Gerits and Phonexay Chitdara, 6-4, in the first flight. In the second flight, Shura Pope and Laia Conde Monfort played their first match together this season. The duo held off Azul Pedemonti and Ndindi Ndunda for a 6-3 victory. Megan Hopton and Marina Davtyan also competed together for the first time this fall. They captured a win in the third flight over Mimi Kendall-Woseley and Elena Tairyan, 6-3.

Tulsa took on the Shockers in the second round of doubles play. Hopton and Davtyan went onto secure their second win of the day, defeating Esther Thebault and Natsumi Kurahashi, 6-3.

After playing their final doubles matches of the fall season, the Golden Hurricane took a short break before playing Central Arkansas in singles competition.

Tulsa would secure four wins against the Sugar Bears. In the fourth flight, Pope defeated Maja Gledic 6-0, 6-3. Freshmen Lian Benedejcic and Conde Monfort also secured wins in singles action. Monfort won in the fourth flight with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Mei Ishimura. Benedejcic competed in the fifth flight, defeating Paulina Engback 6-1, 6-0.

Hopton took to the court against Tiffani Holman from Wichita State in the eighth flight. The sophomore secured the win in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.

The Golden Hurricane wrap up the Tulsa Invite and their fall schedule on Sunday. Tulsa is set to play the Shockers in singles competition, beginning at 10 a.m. Matches were originally scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m.

Fans can tune into all matches via live stream. All duels, except for contests played indoors, and on court #7 will be streamed. Additionally, no indoor duels will have live stats.
