Tulsa Women's Tennis Concludes Fall Season at Tulsa Invite

The Tulsa women's tennis team concluded its fall season at the Tulsa Invite on Sunday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The three-day invitational featured the Golden Hurricane competing against Central Arkansas, Houston, and Wichita State in singles and doubles competition.

Tulsa only competed in singles on Sunday, as the Golden Hurricane took on the Shockers. Tulsa tallied five wins against Wichita State, securing wins in the second through sixth flights.

Laia Conde Monfort secured the first win of the day for Tulsa, as she defeated Alexandra Lazarova 6-1, 6-2, in the second flight. The freshman ends the fall season at 9-3 overall in singles. She will enter spring competition on a four-game winning streak.

Lian Benedejcic, Megan Hopton, and Shura Poppe each concluded the fall schedule by winning their third consecutive singles contest.

In the second flight, Poppe improved to 8-5 overall with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over LingWei Kong. Hopton stands at 8-2 on the year, following a 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Ting-Ya Hsu in the sixth flight.

Benedejcic played three sets against Marta Bellucco, winning 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, in the fourth flight. The freshman will head into spring competition with a 7-4 overall record in singles. 
Marina Davtyan also improved to 7-4 in singles with a three-set win in the fifth flight vs. Natsumi Kurahashi, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.

Tulsa ends fall competition with a 48-28 overall record in singles play. The Golden Hurricane wrapped up fall doubles play on Saturday, finishing at 16-17.

Head coach Dean Orford's squad will get some much-deserved rest, as they don't compete again until the new year. The Golden Hurricane return to action on Sunday, January 12, as they are scheduled to host Mercer and Arkansas - Pine Bluff.
