The Hurricane Suffer 98-79 Loss at Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – A 6-0 run with 11:49 left in the game drew the Hurricane within 9 of the Razorback lead; however, Tulsa fell in the end to Arkansas 98-79 at Bud Walton Arena. The Hurricane falls to 8-3 on the season, while Arkansas moves to 9-1.
 
Tulsa shot 44-percent from the floor on 28-64 shooting including 22-percent (4-18) from three. The Hurricane was 19-27 (70.4) from the free-throw line led by Elijah Joiner's 8-11 from the foul-line.
 
Joiner led the Hurricane in shooting posting a career high 19 points on 5-7 (71.4) from the field. Senior Martins Igbanu added 18 points and 5 rebounds, while Brandon Rachal had 14 points and 8 rebounds.
 
"We did not play well, and our defense was not very good," Head Coach Frank Haith said, "It is good experience, and there are things to be taken from this game. We will put this game into our memory bank."
 
Tulsa's only lead of the contest came at 4-3 on a Joiner jumper. However, the Hurricane watched the Razorbacks go on an 20-3 run to take a 23-7 lead.
 
The Hurricane shot 41-percent in the first half and used a 7-2 run to cut the Razorback lead to 11 at the 1:16. Two free throws and a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Mason Jones (41 points) gave Arkansas a 50-34 lead at the break.
 
Tulsa led the rebounding battle 39-31 pulling down 14 offensive rebounds in the process. The Hurricane pounded the point scoring 42 paint points compared the Razorbacks' 30.
 
Four Hurricane starters scored double-digits (Joiner (19), Igbanu (18), Rachal (14) and Jackson (10)) combining for 61 of Tulsa's 79 points (77-percent). Igbanu and Joiner scored 24 of their combined 37 points in the second half.

To start the second half, Tulsa jumped out to a 6-0 run capped off by a four-point play by Reggie Jones. After Tulsa cut the lead to 9, the Razorbacks responded by going on a 13-2 run to extend their lead to 20 points. 
 
The Razorbacks were led by Mason Jones who scored 41 points on 12-18 shooting from the field (67-percent), 5-11 from three (45-percent) and 12-13 from the free-throw line (92-percent). Isaiah Joe added 20 points and three steals for Arkansas.
 
The Hurricane is back in action on Saturday, Dec. 21 as they face off against Colorado State at the BOK Center at 1:30 p.m.
