It was Okalova's win at the No. 1 slot that gave the Hurricane a 2-1 lead. Trailing 4-3 in the first set against the nation's 17th-ranked player, Okalova scored the next 3 points to win the initial set 6-4 over Ambrosio. Okalova jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second set en route to a 6-2 victory.

Tulsa quickly added to its lead when Vera Ploner captured a 6-2, 6-1 win over Seira Shimiziu at the No. 3 position. Shura Poppe's 6-2, 7-5 win at the No. 4 position gave the Hurricane a 4-1 lead, clinching the victory for the Hurricane.

The Golden Hurricane notched its final point of the afternoon with a come-from-behind victory from freshman Megan Hopton. After losing the first set, the England native tallied a 7-5 win in the second, followed by a 6-4 win in the third frame to win her match over Purdue's Caitlin Calkins.

Tulsa's lone loss in singles action came at the No. 6 position where Purdue's Zala Dovnik defeated Tulsa's Marina Davtyan in three sets 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.

Head coach Dean Orford's bunch resumes action next Friday, as it travels to Norman for an in-state rivalry match with Oklahoma.
