Tulsa Women’s Tennis Drops Friday Match to No. 26 UCF

ORLANDO, Fla. – Tulsa senior Martha Matoula notched her second ranked win of the season, as Tulsa (11-8) dropped its Friday afternoon ranked match against No. 26 UCF (16-2), 6-1, at the USTA National Campus.
Matoula owns a team-leading 13 singles victories, including a 9-2 record at the No. 2 spot and a flawless 4-0 mark at the No. 1 position.
The Knights secured the 1-0 advantage on the back of 6-2 and 6-3 wins at the No. 2 and 3 positions, respectively.
In singles, UCF took four of the first six frames in the solo contests. Megan Hopton fell in her No. 4 match to Marie Mattel, 6-2, 6-4. The No. 26 Knights extended its 3-0 lead as Shura Poppe dropped her contest to Natalia Serrano, 6-3, 6-2.
The match-clinching point came at the No. 2 position, as Vera Ploner fell a tightly-contested match to Rebeka Stolmar, 6-2, 6-3. Martina Okalova would also drop her contest shortly after to No. 41 Valeriya Zeleva, 7-5, 6-2.
Tulsa's lone win came in the second-to-last solo match, nabbing a victory over No. 84 Ksenia Kuznetsova, 6-3, 7-5. The Knights prevailed in the final match of the night, winning a three-set affair over Tulsa's Marina Davtyan, 4-6, 7-5, 10-8.
Head coach Dean Orford's squad will continue its four-match road swing on Saturday, March 30, as the team will face off with North Texas in Denton.
