Tulsa Women’s Tennis Set for Lonestar State Matches This Weekend

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa women's tennis squad (11-8) heads to Texas for two matches this weekend, taking on North Texas (9-7) on Saturday before battling SMU (7-10) in Dallas on Sunday.
The Golden Hurricane and the Mean Green square off on Friday at 11 a.m. CT in Denton, Texas. The two teams met a season ago in Tulsa, where TU tallied a 4-0 sweep at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
On Sunday, Tulsa will travel to Dallas, Texas, in search of the team's first American Athletic Conference victory of 2019, taking on the Mustangs at 11 a.m. CT. A season ago, the Golden Hurricane swept SMU, 4-0, in the regular season and in the championship match of the AAC tournament.
For Tulsa head coach Dean Orford's squad, the team has tallied an 11-8 record in the dual season. In its last appearance, Tulsa fell in two hard-fought matches in the Sunshine State, dropping matches to No. 45 USF and No. 26 UCF.
The Golden Hurricane is led by senior Martha Matoula in singles, who boasts a 13-2 mark in solo play. Matoula is 4-0 at the No. 1 spot, also boasting a 9-2 mark at the No. 2 position. Martina Okalova is the lone TU athlete ranked in singles at No. 98, while Okalova and Vera Ploner still rank among the nation's best in doubles, slotted at 15th overall.
