Tulsa Volleyball to Open Season at North Texas Invite

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa volleyball team will kick off the 2019 regular season on Friday, Aug. 30, as the Golden Hurricane travel to the Denton, Texas for the North Texas Invite. The invitational, which is hosted by North Texas, will take place in the North Texas Volleyball Center.
The two-day tournament features four teams that advanced to the postseason a year ago. On Friday, TU will start the season off against two teams that played in last season's NCAA Tournament. Tulsa opens the invitational at 11:30 a.m. against Pepperdine. Later that afternoon, the Golden Hurricane will square off against Illinois State with the match slated for 4:30 p.m.
Tournament action concludes on Saturday, Aug. 31, as Tulsa clashes with North Texas at 12:30 p.m. The meeting against the Mean Green marks the fourth encounter over the last three seasons and the first since the first round of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC).
Friday's opening contest vs. the Wave will be the first meeting between the two programs. Tulsa has taken to the court against its other two opponents, meeting both the Red Birds and the Mean Green in 2018. Tulsa is 0-18 all-time vs. Illinois State and 15-8 vs. North Texas.
