Men's Tennis Starts 2020 Campaign Sweeping Mercer in Doubleheader

TULSA, Okla. - 
The Tulsa men's tennis team started the 2020 season on a positive note, as the Golden Hurricane defeated Mercer in a doubleheader on Sunday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The Hurricane (2-0) defeated the Bears (1-2) by a final of 6-1 in the first match and 4-0 in the second contest.

Tulsa hosts Bryant (0-0) on Sunday, January 19 at Case Tennis Center. The match is slated for a 1:30 p.m. start.

Match 1: Tulsa 6, Mercer 1
Tulsa started the morning with a strong showing in doubles play, as the Golden Hurricane captured two wins for an early 1-0 lead. Boriss Kamdem and Daniel Siddall claimed a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles over Mercer's Carver Arant and Sachin Khurana. Connor Di Marco and Kody Pearson followed by defeating Stathis Tsiranidis in the No. 2 slot, 6-3.

In singles competition, Pearson who ranks 98th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) singles rankings, fought back to upset No. 46 Oliver Stuart in three sets, 6-1, 2-6, 7-5. He now has a combined four wins over ranked opponents this season.

Ezequiel Santalla also played to three sets at No. 5 singles, ultimately winning in a three-set tiebreaker 6-1, 7-6 (6), 1-0 (6). In the No. 2 position, Stefan Hampe defeated Carver Arant in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.

Connor Di Marco and Tom Thelwall-Jones also won their matches in back-to-back sets. Di Marco captured a tiebreak point for the win at No. 4 singles 6-2, 7-6 (6). Thelwall-Jones fought back in his match against Lucas Wayenburg in the No. 6 slot. He took the opening set 7-6 (6), before claiming the second set 6-2.


Match 2: Tulsa 4, Mercer 0
Daniel Siddall captured a win for Tulsa at the No. 5 position, defeating Sachin Khurana in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.

Siddall would be joined by fellow sophomores Kody Pearson and Stefan Hampe with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Pearson won in a 6-3, 6-3 decision vs. Hugo Lobo. Hampe gave TU its second win of the match against David Georgadz 6-3, 6-1.

Boriss Kamdem clinched the match for the Hurricane at No. 6 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Daniel Krashin.
