TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa women's tennis team will face its toughest competition of the spring this weekend, as the Golden Hurricane (5-0) head to Durham, North Carolina for the Duke regional of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
The regional gets underway at 9 a.m. CT, as the No. 3-seeded Hurricane take on No. 2-seeded Mississippi State. Depending on the outcome, Tulsa will either face the top-seed and fifth-ranked Blue Devils (2-0)Â or No. 4-seeded Kansas State on Sunday. The consolation match is scheduled for 9 a.m., with the championship match at 1 p.m. CT.
All four teams have players ranked in the 2019 Oracle Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I National Fall Rankings. The Hurricane feature the reigning American Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week in No. 52 Martina Okalova. She is 5-0 at No. 1 singles and 4-0 at No. 1 doubles with teammate Vera Ploner. The All-American tandem is ranked No. 40 in doubles.
The Bulldogs (2-0) feature two of the top 45 doubles teams in No. 43 Magda Adaloglou and Tamara Racine and No. 45 Emma Antonaki and Alexandra Mikhaluk. Antonaki is also ranked No. 84 in singles.
If Tulsa plays Duke, the Hurricane will go up against four Blue Devils ranked in the top 80 in singles -- No. 10 Kelly Chen, No. 25 Chloe Beck, No. 67 Margaryta Bilokin, and No. 77 Meible Chi. Beck and Chi also rank 35th in doubles. The Wildcats (1-0) have the 54th-ranked tandem in Margot Decker and Anna Turco.
