Santalla Captures Ranked Win in 6-1 Loss to #9 Texas A&M

TULSA, Okla. -- Freshman Ezequiel Santalla captured his second career win over a ranked foe on Friday night, as the Tulsa men's tennis team fell to ninth-ranked Texas A&M, 6-1 at Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of TU. With the loss, the Golden Hurricane fall to 5-2 overall, while the Aggies improve to 3-0.

Santalla improved his record to 3-0 in dual matches this season, as he upset No. 74 Pierce Rollins in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5.

Jarod Hing and Stefan Hampe each clawed back into their respective contests. Trailing after the first set, Hing rallied from behind to force a decisive third set at No. 2 singles vs. No. 3-ranked Valentin Vacherot. The senior would fall, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. Hampe would dominate the second set in the No. 3 position, as he forced a tiebreak against No. 10 Hady Habib, but suffered a 6-1, 7-6(10) loss.

Texas A&M secured the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, but Tulsa would take the win in the top spot. The duo of Connor Di Marco and Kody Pearson secured a 6-4 win over Hady Habib and Carlos Aguilar.

The Hurricane will continue to face SEC competition next week, as they travel to Alabama(RV) and LSU. Tulsa is set to play the Crimson Tide on Friday, February 7, at 6 p.m.
