Tulsa sophomore rower Madlen Markova represented Bulgaria in the 2020 European Rowing Championships this past weekend.
The European Championships are for elite senior rowers, many of whom will be competing in Tokyo in 2021 in the Olympics.
Markova, along with partner Desislava Angelova, turned in a third-place finish in a time of 7:24.61 in the 'B' Final, trailing teams from Belarus (7:19.23) and Hungary (7:21.96) in the race, but topping the team from Russia (7:32.79).
"We are all proud of Madlen and the rowing she has been doing for Bulgaria," Tulsa Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "She competed against women who will be at the Olympics in 2021. It's inspiring to see her chasing her dreams and competing at such a high level. She has been doing that while studying remotely at Tulsa, which is also a testament to her work ethic. We are really excited to see her bring those experiences back to Tulsa and help us get faster this spring. She is a tremendous Golden Hurricane student-athlete."
