TRUE BLUE NEIGHBORS CLOTHING & FOOD DRIVE SET FOR WICHITA STATE GAME

•  Fans are asked to help support fellow Oklahomans for the True Blue Neighbors Drive when the Tulsa Golden Hurricane men's basketball team hosts the 23rd-ranked Wichita State Shockers.

• TU athletics and the school's True Blue Neighbors Initiative have partnered with the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma and Family and Children's Services to collect water, non-perishable food items, clothing, furniture and other household items at Saturday's game.

• TU student-athletes will be collecting items from fans attending the game. Drop-off locations will be at the TU Football Trailer Truck that will be located on 8th street by the arena, as well as at the various Reynolds Center entrances.


THE GAME

• This is the 131st meeting between Tulsa and Wichita State and the 5th as American Athletic Conference members.

• Wichita State is 17-3 on the season and ranekd 23rd in the AP poll  ...  the Shockers come into Saturday's match-up off of a 87-79 victory against UCF at home ... Wichita State has key non-conference wins over Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss and VCU.

• This will be the first of two meetings between Tulsa and Wichita State this season, as the Hurricane will travel to Wichita, Kan. for the season finale on March 8.

• The Shockers enter the game 5-2 in the American Athletic Conference, while Tulsa is 6-1 in conference play.

THE SERIES

• Wichita State holds the series advantage at 69-61 ... the Hurricane is 35-29 at home against the Shockers, 23-39 on the road and 3-1 in neutral site games.

• The Shockers have won 13 of the last 14 contests against the Hurricane ... prior to Wichita State's streak, Tulsa defeated the Shockers in13 straight contests.

• Tulsa's last meeting against Wichita State came on Feb.  20, 2019 as the Hurricane lost 81-60 in the Reynolds Center .

• The last win for the Hurricane came against the 9th-ranked Shockers in a non-conference matchup on Nov. 17, 2015 at the Reynolds Center, 77-67.

• The first game in the series came in the 1930-31 season as Tulsa defeated the Shockers 32-30 in Wichita.

LAST MEETING AGAINST THE SHOCKERS

• The Hurricane took on the Shockers in a conference home game on Feb. 20, 2019, in the Reynolds Center, as Tulsa lost by a score of 81-60.

Martins Igbanu led the way for Tulsa scoring 17 points ... DaQuan Jeffries recorded his second double-double of the season putting in 10 points and 10 rebounds.

• Tulsa used a 7-0 run to start the second half to pull within 53-42 with 13:52 to remaining ... minutes later the Shockers used four straight 3-pointers to pull away.

• Tulsa led the way in rebounding grabbing 45 boards compared to the Shockers 37 ... the Hurricane secured a season-high 19 offensive boards.

• The Shockers were led by Dexter Dennis who scored 18  points on 6 three-pointers ... Samajae Haynes-Jones scored 17 points,  including 5 triples ... WSU shot 48% from the field and 45.5% from 3-point range (15-of-33)

LAST WIN AGAINST WICHITA STATE

• Tulsa welcomed the No. 9 Wichita State Shockers to the Reynolds Center of Nov. 17, 2015 in an early season non-conference home game.

Shaquille Harrison led the way for Tulsa scoring 20 points going 6-10 (60%) from the floor and 6-8 (75%) from the free-throw line ... Marquel Curtis scored 16, Pat Birt added 14 and James Woodard knocked down 13 points for TU.

• It was Tulsa's first win against a top-25 opponent since defeating No. 22 Dayton in 2003 ... the Hurricane's first victory over a top-10 opponent since taking down No. 7 Cincinnati in 2000 NCAA Tournament.

• Tulsa shot 46-percent from the field and 45.5-percent from 3-point range, while holding the Shockers to 36.4-percent from the field and 30.8 from behind the arc.

• The Shockers got as close as three points making the score 58-55, with 7:31 to play … the Hurricane scored the next six points to take a nine-point lead, pushing the lead to 12 points three times during the last 5 minutes.

• Fred VanVleet led the Shockers with 11 first-half points, while fellow guard Ron Baker scored nine points. 

SCOUTING THE SHOCKERS

• Wichita State was picked to finish 4th in the American Athletic Conference ... the Shockers finished last season with a record of 22-15, 10-8  in conference play and made it to the NIT FInal Four.

• Wichita State comes into the game ranked #23 by the AP Top-25 Poll and #22 by the USA Today Coaches Poll.

• Wichita State is coached by Gregg Marshall, who is in his 13th season with the program.

• The Shockers are 5-2 in conference play, most recently defeating UCF at home, 87-79 on Saturday, Jan 25.

• Wichita State is 3-1 on the road this year with their only loss coming at Temple on Jan. 15 with a final of 65-53.

• Three Shockers score 10+ points a game, Erik Stevenson (12.4), Jaime Echenique (10.9) and Jamarius Burton (10.5).

• Stevenson has been named AAC Player of the Week twice, first on Dec. 16 then on Jan. 6 ... Tyson Etienne and Grant Sherfield both have been named Freshman of the Week this season ... Jamarius Burton, Dexter Dennis, Erik Stevenson and Jaime Echenique have all been selected to the AAC weekly honor roll.

A TULSA WIN WOULD

• Give Tulsa their 62nd victory against Wichita State ... breaking the Shocker's winning streak against the Hurricane. 

• Give Tulsa their first win of the month of February and improve Tulsa's record on Feb. 1 to 19-12.

• Give the Hurricane their 15th win of the season, and a 7-1 record in conference play.

• Improve Tulsa's record at home to 11-1 this season.
