The Tulsa women's basketball team added junior-transfers Maya Mayberry and Sommer Blakemore to the 2020-21 roster, as announced today by Head Coach Matilda Mossman.  The duo join the three 2020 freshmen signees, Makenna Burch, Olivia Clayton and Jessika Evans, that signed in the fall.

"With the graduation of Alexis Gaulden, we really needed some experience at the point guard position," Mossman said. "With Maya and Sommer, not only do we get experience, but we bring in individuals who are accustomed to leading their teams.  After struggling to score from the perimeter last year, Maya and Sommer (along with early signee, Makenna Burch) give us a much-needed boost from the three-point line.  Both of them are combo guards who are as comfortable off the ball as they are with the ball in their hands.  In addition, they have high basketball IQ's, will compete in the classroom, and will represent us well on and off the court. We are truly excited to welcome them to our Tulsa basketball family!"

Mayberry, sister of former Tulsa standout and current assistant coach Taleya Mayberry, played her first two seasons at Oral Roberts.  The 5-8 guard tallied 37 double-digit scoring games, including seven 20+ scoring contests in 59 games as a Golden Eagle.  She was tabbed to the all-Summit League second team as a sophomore, while averaging 14.1 points and shooting at a 41.2-percent clip, and also received Summit League all-newcomer honors as a freshman.  Mayberry was a four-year letterwinner at Fayetteville High School, helping her team capture the 2015 and 2017 state championships, while earning all-conference honors three times and all-state accolades as a senior.  Mayberry played AAU ball for Oklahoma PWP.

Blakemore, a 5-5 guard from Apple Valley, Minn., was a two-year letterwinner at Iowa Western Community College.  This past season, Blakemore was named an NJCAA All-American, as well as the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Player of the Year.  She averaged 9.8 points per game as a freshman and 12.2 ppg during her sophomore season at IWCC.  Blakemore had a two-year shooting average of 38.7-percent from the field, 35.5-percent from three-point range and 75-percent from the free throw line.  A four-year letterwinner at Park Center High School, Blakemore helped capture 94 wins and was a three-time all-conference honoree.
