Tulsa Women’s Tennis Team, Six Individuals Earn ITA Academic Honors

TEMPE, Ariz. –– The University of Tulsa women's tennis team was recognized today by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) with an All-Academic Team distinction and had six student-athletes earn ITA scholar-athlete honors.
 
 
The Tulsa women ended the academic year with a 3.81 overall team grade point average for the spring semester and a yearly GPA of 3.525. To qualify for the ITA All-Academic Team, the team grade point average must be a 3.2 or above with all varsity letterwinners factored into the cumulative GPA.
 
The six Tulsa female tennis student-athletes earning ITA scholar-athlete honors for 2020 are seniors Martina Okalova, Vera Ploner and Shura Poppe, sophomore Marina Davtyan and freshmen Lian Benedejcic and Laia Conde Monfort. Benedejcic and Poppe turned in perfect 4.00 GPAs for the entire year.
 
Student-athletes must have at least a 3.5 GPA for the current academic year to be considered for scholar-athlete recognition.
 
In 2020, a total of 1,430 NCAA Division I Women student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and 244 women's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.
 
The Golden Hurricane women completed the shortened season with an overall 9-4 record.
