Tulsa Women Fall 4-3 to No. 25 Kansas

TULSA, Okla. –– The Tulsa women's tennis team fell 4-3 to the nation's 25^th-ranked Kansas Jayhawks Sunday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The Hurricane moved to 3-2 on the year and Kansas evened its season record to 1-1.

Kansas picked up the doubles point as Tulsa's doubles win came at the No. 1 spot when the 22^nd-ranked team of Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner captured a 6-4 victory over the nation's No. 49 duo of Malkia Ngounoue and Carmen Manu.

Kansas made the score 2-0 with a win at the No. 5 slot, before Tulsa's Lian Benedjcic put Tulsa in the win column with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 6.

The Jayhawks sealed the victory with wins at No. 3 and No. 4. Laia Conde Monfort at the No. 4 position pushed KU's Carmen Manu to a tiebreaker in the second set before falling 7-6.

Tulsa closed out the match when Ploner won at the No. 4 flight in three sets 6-1, 4-6, 6-2, while the 86^th-ranked Okalova also went three sets to defeat the nation's 81^st-ranked Sonia Smagina 6-0, 4-6, 6-4.

Tulsa will be in action next Sunday, Feb. 7, as the Golden Hurricane women host the Memphis Tigers.
