Tulsa Men’s Soccer Team Hosts West Virginia in NCAA Third Round Saturday

Tulsa's No. 2 ranked and No. 6 seeded men's soccer team will host No. 11 seed West Virginia in the NCAA Tournament Third Round on Saturday, November 27 beginning at 7:00 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.

Fans unable to attend the match in person can watch it live on ESPN+. TU fans can subscribe to ESPN+ to watch select Golden Hurricane basketball, soccer, softball and volleyball games. This is the fourth time that TU will play in the NCAA Third Round, including quarterfinal appearances in 2004 and 2009, and a Third Round finish in 2012. The Golden Hurricane is 10-10-2 in the tournament, including a 10-9-2 mark under Head Coach Tom McIntosh.
The Golden Hurricane has a 16-1-1 overall record, including an 11-0 mark in the friendly confines of the Hurricane Stadium, and advanced to the Third Round after receiving a First Round bye and topping Creighton (1-0) in the Second Round. As a team, Tulsa ranks first in the nation in penalty kicks (1.00), first in won-lost-tied percentage (0.917), seventh in goal differential (30), eighth in saves percentage (0.803), ninth in goals-against average (0.705), ninth in scoring offense (2.39), 11th in shot accuracy (0.490), 13th in total goals (43), 13th in shutout percentage (0.500), 20th in total points (121) and 43rd in total assists (35).
Fifteen players have scored a goal for Tulsa, including a team-best 12 goals by Alex Meinhard, seven by Malik Henry-Scott, three goals by both Ben Barkley and Takayoshi Wyatt, and two by Tom Protzek, Austen Schweinert, Henry Sach, Til Zinnhardt, Mariano Fazio and Marcos Moreno, while five others have one score (one goal was an own goal). Alex Lopez has logged 1,516 minutes between the posts, picking up 39 saves for a 0.765 saves percentage and allowing 12 goals for a 0.71 goals-against average.
West Virginia has an 11-3-5 overall record, including a 1-1 tie against Virginia Tech in the NCAA Second Round before advancing on penalty kicks, 4-3. The Mountaineers received a First Round bye. Ciro Bourlot Jaeggi has a team-best six goals and 12 points, while Yoran Popovic has four scores and 11 others have at least one goal. Steven Tekesky has logged 1,810 minutes between the posts, picked up 41 saves for a 0.759 saves percentage and seven clean sheets, and allowed 13 goals for a 0.65 goals-against average.
This will be the first meeting between the two teams on the soccer pitch.
