Tulsa, Okla. –– The University of Tulsa and Oral Roberts continue their cross-town rivalry with the 56th meeting between the two teams on Monday night in the Mabee Center. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. and the game will stream on the ORU Sports Network.
Tulsa (4-2) and ORU (3-3) didn't meet in 2020-21 due to pandemic. The Golden Hurricane lead the all-time series 36-19 and hold a four-game winning streak against the Golden Eagles, taking three of the four by more than 10 points. TU holds a 16-12 advantage played in games in the Mabee Center.
This will be Tulsa's first true game as the visiting team this season. The Hurricane have only been on the road for the Sunshine Slam, playing on a neutral court against Rhode Island and Utah.
Tulsa comes in having won their only game this past week, beating Little Rock 77-63 in a post-Thanksgiving matchup on Friday. Jeriah Horne paced the Hurricane with 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting to go along with eight rebounds, three steals and four assists. Other Hurricane scoring in double-figures were Rey Idowu (16), Sam Griffin (14) and Darien Jackson (12).
Freshman Anthony Pritchard earned the second start of his young career and took advantage of the opportunity. He dished out six assists and was active on both sides of the ball, pulling down eight defensive rebounds and getting three steals. He also scored four points and only turned the ball over once in 24 minutes of action, finishing with a plus-minus of 18.
Griffin and Horne lead the Hurricane in scoring this season, each averaging 17.3 points per game. Horne also is the team leader in rebounds, pulling down 7.5 a game. He and Idowu each have 13 on the offensive side, and Jackson has 11, helping give Tulsa extra possessions on offense.
The Golden Eagles enter Monday night's showdown having taken Oklahoma State to the brink. ORU pushed the Cowboys to overtime before a last-second shot was just off the mark, handing Oral Roberts a 78-77 loss. Max Abmas and DeShang Weaver combined to score 49 points in the effort.
Abmas paces the Golden Eagles with 19.2 points per game, and Weaver has 10.5 per game. Joining those two in double-figures are Isaac McBride (13.2) and Trey Phipps (10.0). The Golden Eagles are a dangerous foe from outside, knocking down 37.3 of their long-range shots. ORU makes 12.7 threes per game, helped in large part by a school-record 21 triples in their home opener against Southwestern Christian.
Following Monday night's game, the Hurricane head to Boise, Idaho for a matchup with Mountain West opponent Boise State on Friday night before a three-game homestand. Tipoff for the game against the Broncos is set for 8 p.m. (CT) on the Mountain West Network.
