Rebecca Lescay had a career-best 25 points to lead Tulsa to a 67-55 win over Georgia State on Saturday afternoon in the GSU Holiday Classic at the GSU Sports Arena in Atlanta, Ga.  The Golden Hurricane moved to 9-0 on the season, while the Panthers fell to 5-6 overall.  TU returns to action in the Classic on Sunday, as Tulsa takes on South Alabama beginning at 11:00 am Central.

With the 9-0 start, TU has tied the longest winning streak in school history dating back to the 2005-06 campaign.

Lescay's 25 points moved her into the top 20 scorers list in school history with 791 points.

Lescay was joined in double figures by Delanie Crawford with 14 points, while Maya Mayberry added 12 and Temira Poindexter had 11.  Maddie Bittle had a team-leading eight rebounds and two steals, while Lescay pulled down seven boards and had five assists.

"Rebecca was unstoppable today," Head Coach Angie Nelp said.  "It didn't matter how they guarded her or who they had guard her, Rebecca was so determined and so driven.  I loved her aggressiveness on the offensive end of the floor and she was big on defense too."

Tulsa had a 28-18 lead in points in the paint and a 12-9 edge in points off turnovers, while GSU had a 24-14 lead in points off the bench.  The Golden Hurricane outrebounded the Panthers, 38-31, and had a 12-10 lead in assists, but GSU had a 10-8 edge in steals.  Both teams had 12 turnovers, but eight of TU's came in the first half.

Neither team could score a field goal to start the game as they combined for 0-of-8 before a layup by Deasia Merrill at the 7:22 mark gave GSU a 2-1 lead.  TU went 0-of-7 before Lescay hit a jumper at the 3:56 mark, and the Panthers had a 10-7 lead at the end of the frame.  The Hurricane was just 2-of-12 from the field (16.7%) in the first 10 minutes, while GSU was 5-of-17 (29.4%).

"It took us a while to get going on the offensive end, but when our shots weren't falling our defense was there and fighting the whole game," Nelp said.  "In the second half our shots started to fall but our defense stayed strong."

Tulsa outscored Georgia State, 17-12, in the second quarter to own a 24-22 edge at halftime.  With just 42-seconds remaining in the first half, Delanie Crawford hit a three-pointer to give TU the scoring edge.  Crawford's trey was the first of the contest for the Hurricane after starting the game 0-of-8 from behind the arc.

The third quarter started once again with the two teams combining for 0-of-8 from the field, but Lescay scored on a layup at the 7:23 mark to end the scoring drought for both teams.   The Golden Hurricane climbed to a 7-point lead twice, including a 34-27 advantage with 4:31 to play in the frame, but the Panthers chipped away at the lead to pull to within one, 40-39, with 1:10 remaining in the quarter.  Maya Mayberry hit two free throws to end the quarter with the three-point lead, 42-39.

Tulsa continued to inch ahead in the final frame, including an 18-point advantage (67-49) lead with 1:00 remaining in the contest, but two three-pointers by the Panthers made it a 12-point win for TU.

GSU was led by Taylor Henderson with 16 points, while Elexus Bell had six rebounds.
