Trefflich's Career Night Helps TU to a 3-1 Victory

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Kylie Trefflich's career-high 16 kills propels the Hurricane to a 3-1 sets victory (25-17, 27-25, 19-25, 25-23) over the Memphis Tigers in the Larry O. Finch Center Thursday afternoon.
Trefflich ended the game with a .357 hitting percentage and only one attack error on 42 attempts, while adding three digs and two blocks.
In all, three Hurricane players put in double-digit kills as Kayley Cassaday and Maggie Hembree joined Trefflich in doing so. Cassaday ended the match with 12 kills, 3 digs and 3 blocks, as Hembree put in 10 kills, a .588 hitting percentage and a season-high 6 blocks.
Tulsa was effective offensively only having 11 attack errors on 150 attempts, finishing with a .280 hitting percentage compared to the Tigers 28 attack errors on 173 attempts for a .191 hitting percentage.
Roosa Rautio continued her strong season putting in 48 assists on 53 of Tulsa's kills; she also added 5 digs and 3 blocks.
In her second consecutive start at libero, Hannah Overmyer put in a team-high 23 digs and two assists. Lauren Isenberg (12) and Aysu Dalogullari (10) both put in double-digit digs as well as Tulsa ended the match with 75 digs.
TU fell behind early in the first set as the Tigers jumped out to a 10-6 lead. Tulsa battled back, going on a 4-0 run led by Cassaday and Cook who each had a kill and block during the run. The Hurricane did not stop there extending the run to 11-3 taking a 17-13 advantage as Memphis called timeout. The Hurricane ended the first with a 25-17 advantage, as Hembree led the way with 7 kills in the opening frame.
The Hurricane and Tigers went back and forth in the second set, as the Tigers used a 5-2 run to hold a 24-21 lead and match points. Three match points later Tulsa tied the set at 24 all with a Trefflich kill. Trefflich ended the set with another kill minutes later, giving the Hurricane a 27-25 set victory and a 2-0 advantage over the Tigers.
In the third set, TU fell behind 17-11 but continued to fight. The Hurricane battled back to 19-17; however, the Tigers outlasted the Tulsa push and took the set 25-19. During the third set, Trefflich shined for TU with 6 kills and a block assist.
In the final frame, Tulsa jumped out to a 6-2 advantage led by Callie Cook's two kills. Cassaday put an exclamation mark on the Hurricane's first win of the season with back-to-back kills to give Tulsa a 24-21 advantage, winning the match on a Tigers' service error.
Tulsa is back in action on Friday at 1:00 p.m. CT against Memphis for the final game of the series in the Larry O. Finch Center.
