The Game
• Tulsa will take on the Tulane Green Wave in a conference home matchup in the Reynolds Center Wednesday afternoon on ESPN+ ... it will be the third consecutive home game for the Hurricane.
• The game is the 18th contest for Tulsa (9-8) this season ... the Green Wave is 7-7 on the season losing their last contest 64-61 in a home conference game against the Cincinnati Bearcats on Feb. 7.
Scouting the Green Wave
• Tulane was picked to finish last in the preseason AAC Coaches Poll ... the Green Wave returned one of their starters from last season, when the team went 12-18 and 4-14 in conference play.
• Tulane added transfers Gabe Watson from Southern Miss, Kevin Cross from Nebraska, and Jaylen Forbes from Alabama ... the trio has appeared in a combined 126 games at the Division 1 level.
• The Green Wave returned starter Jordan Walker ... the junior guard last season averaged 7.9 points and 2.2 rebounds a game.
• The Green Wave opened their season with four straight wins with the largest margin coming at home against Southern Miss as Tulane picked up the 58-38 victory ... they have lost 7 of their last 9 conference game including their last two.
• Tulane is led in scoring by Forbes who is averaging 15.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game ... Walker is averaging 13.4 points and 2.1 rebounds a game for the Green Wave.
• Tulane is led by Head Coach Ron Hunter, who has been at the helm of the Green Wave for the last 2 seasons ... he holds a 19-25 record at Tulane.
The Series
• This will be the 31st contest between the Golden Hurricane and the Green Wave ... Tulsa leads the series at 24-6 with TU winning the two meetings last season, at home, 62-57 and at Tulane 67-54.
• TU won the first-ever contest against the Green Wave in the ORU Mabee Center 102-85 on Dec. 13, 1980 in Nolan Richardson's first season as the head coach of the Hurricane ... TU would finish 26-7 during the 1980-81 season.
• This is the 16th time Tulsa has hosted Tulane in at home with the Hurricane holding an 14-1 advantage on the home court ... Tulsa has a road record of 8-4 against the Green Wave and a neutral site record of 2-1.
A Tulsa Win Would
• Give the Hurricane its 10th win of the season, moving Tulsa to 10-8, 7-6 AAC on the year.
• Move Tulsa's all-time record against Tulane to 25-6.
• Give TU its 8th straight win against the Green Wave after winning the two contests last season.
Last Game Against the Green Wave
• Tulsa held off a surge by Tulane to capture a 62-57 win in front of 3,443 fans at the Donald W. Reynolds Center ... Martins Igbanu led the way with 17 points and 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.
• Tulsa improved its overall season record to 19-9 and 11-4 in the American Athletic Conference, while Tulane fell to 12-16 and 4-12.
• Jeriah Horne added 14 points and 6 rebounds for the Hurricane, while Lawson Korita had 12 points and 4 boards ... the Hurricane hit 49-percent of its field goals, while knocking down 50-percent of its 3-pointers, going 10-of-20 from behind the arc.
• Tulsa held the Green Wave to 39-percent shooting from the field and after a 10-8 deficit in the first half for paint scoring, the Hurricane ended the game out-scoring Tulane in the paint 22-16.
• The Green Wave took a one-point lead, 53-52, at the 4:53 mark and again with 3:23 left in the contest for a 55-54 lead ... Horne's trey at 3:05 on the clock put Tulsa back ahead by 2 points at 57-55 ... Igbanu's layup made it 59-55 with just 0:39 on the game clock.
Record Watch
• Elijah Joiner and Darien Jackson have been vital for the Hurricane this season.
• Joiner, Tulsa's senior point guard, has cracked the top-20 all-time in assists for the Hurricane with his 48 assists this season ... in his career he has 270 assists in 109 games and is number 20 all-time, trailing Pooh Williamson's 277.
• Jackson is a defensive minded guard, who is the heart of the Hurricane defense ... the senior has accumulated 92 steals in his career and is only 17 steals away from catching Michael Scott who is 20th all-time with 109.
• Jackson has also shown out offensively leading the AAC and TU in field goal percentage ... shooting at a 67.9% clip ... if he reaches 125 attempts and shoots above a 65.9 percentage he would rank 1st all-time on the FG percentage list ... as of now, Jackson has attempted 78 shots.
A Rich Tradition
• The month of February is Black History month, and the University of Tulsa Men's Basketball program has a rich tradition of hiring African-American Coaches..
• Nolan Richardson broke barriers at Tulsa in 1980, becoming the first African-American head coach in school history ... Richardson is 4th all-time in career wins at the helm of Tulsa with 119 victories in 5 seasons.
• Richardson was followed in 1991 as the Golden Hurricane hired Tubby Smith as head coach ... Smith spent four seasons with TU, leading Tulsa to a NCAA 'Sweet Sixteen' during the 1993-94 season.
• Now North Carolina assistant coach Steve Robinson led Tulsa to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances from 1995-97, while Danny Manning (38-29) and Frank Haith (125-83) have led the Hurricane the past 8 seasons.
• Former Tulsa point guard Alvin "Pooh" Williamson was interim coach during the 2004-05 season.
Too Little, Too Late…
• In the last 2 home games, Tulsa has dug itself a hole and ran out of time to garner the victory … the Hurricane trailed by as many as 17 points vs. SMU and 16 against UCF in the second half.
• Against SMU, the Hurricane trailed by 17 points with 6:21 remaining in the contest at 60-43 … Tulsa went on a furious 20-5 run over the final 6:20 to slice its deficit to 2 points … in the final 0:10, Tulsa had 2 field goal attempts and went just 1-of-3 from the free throw line at the 0:01 mark.
• A game later against UCF, the Knights had a 16-point lead, 50-34, at the 14:04 mark of the second half … the Hurricane cut its deficit to one point at 57-56 with 2:31 remaining in the game.
• During that stretch, Tulsa went on a 22-7 run, including a 17-3 stretch over an 8:14 time span, cutting the UCF lead from 54-39 at that point to 57-56.
• UCF converted on 13-of-28 three-pointers during the game, including the final one at the 1:14 mark to make the score 61-56.
