Hurricane Drops Match at SMU

3/13/2021 4:58:00 PM | Volleyball

DALLAS, Texas – Tulsa takes the fight to SMU, but large deficits are too much for TU, as the Hurricane fall to the Mustangs 3-0 in Moody Coliseum Saturday afternoon.

Junior Callie Cook led the Hurricane in kills with 5 on 20 attempts, adding in her 6th block of the weekend. Kylie Trefflich and Kayley Cassaday each had 4 kills for the Hurricane.

Defensively Hannah Overmyer played one of the best games of her career with 18 digs and two service aces.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 18-8 lead in the first set, but the Hurricane did not stop fighting, going on a 5-2 run to cut the lead to 7. SMU ended the set taking the 25-15 set win and the 1-0 advantage.

The second and third sets were snapshots of the first as the Mustangs built a large lead that was too much for the Hurricane to come back from. Tulsa lost set 2, 25-13, and set 3, 25-14, giving SMU the 3-0 match win.

The Hurricane is back in action March 26-27 as it closes out the regular season in the Reynolds Center against Tulane.
