
Martina Okalova Named The American’s Women’s Tennis Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas –– University of Tulsa senior Martina Okalova was named the American Athletic Conference's Women's Tennis Player of the Week, it was announced today by the league office.
In wins over 32nd-ranked Texas Tech (4-3) and Wichita State (4-2), Okalova posted a 2-0 record in singles and also had a 2-0 doubles record with teammate Vera Ploner to pace the Hurricane.
Against Texas Tech, Okalova put Tulsa up 3-2 with her 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 victory at the No. 1 position after trailing 4-1 in the first set to Tech's Lisa Mays. In the WSU match, Okalova clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 1 spot for the 4-2 win.
The weekly award is Okalova's first conference player of the week honor of this season and the second for a Tulsa player this spring.
Okalova is ranked 98th nationally in the ITA rankings and 26th in doubles with Ploner.
