Tulsa's 2nd Varsity 8+ earned a top finish, while the Varsity 8+ and 2nd Varsity 4+ were both second, and the Varsity 4+ was third in a regatta against Kansas State and Division II National Champions Central Oklahoma on Saturday morning at the J. Bird Sr. Shell Nest in Catoosa, Okla.
"Having the ability to race two really good teams in UCO and Kansas State today marks a milestone in terms of getting back to some normalcy with rowing," Head Coach Kevin Harris said. "We didn't have the results we wanted today. We need to clean up some things, but I thought we raced pretty well. We were able to get ahead of KSU in the Varsity 8+, but there is a reason the UCO team is the reigning Division II National Champions. The 2nd Varsity 8+ did the best today, hats off to them, they were in a tight race early but were able to pull ahead in the second half of the race. Both Fours have rowed better today than they have been, but we'll go back to the drawing board to see how to make all of our boats better."
Isabel Stutte, Ariadni Mitsi, Bobbi Forster, Nicole Workman, Julia Olawumi, Johanna Kristof, Chloe Wild, Ivanina Petrova and Meredith Galloway recorded a first-place mark with a time of 7:56.24 in the 2nd Varsity 8+ race. The Golden Hurricane boat finished more than 15 seconds ahead of the Kansas State crews' time of 8:11.47.
In the Varsity 8+, Central Oklahoma crossed the finish line first with a time of 7:30.91. Chloe Henderson, Becky Coleman, Sarolta Papp, Madlen Markova, Bass Andre, Karen Undset, Millie Brice, Ella Stanhope and Suzannah Hornett posted a time of 7:44.37 for second place, while KSU was third with a time of 7:55.10.
Isabella Musollino, Gabrielle Cook, Kelsey Viane, Helena Gutzmer and Ermioni Lamprianidou raced the Varsity 4+ to a third-place time of 9:33.34, following Kansas State (9:01.92) and Central Oklahoma (9:23.38).
In the 2nd Varsity 4+, TU's Mary Birthisel, Kyra VanderWeele, Katherine Stenning, Julianna Lynch and Cloee Graham finished second with a time of 10:01.01, trailing Kansas State (9:40.73), but finishing ahead of Central Oklahoma (10:17.08).
