Tulsa redshirt freshman Alex Meinhard was named as the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, and picked up The American all-conference and all-rookie team honors, as announced today by the league office.

"I'm super happy for Alex," Tulsa Head Coach Tom McIntosh said.  "He has had a tough few year, but his perseverance and training has paid off.  He has earned these awards through the work he has put in and I am super pleased for him."

Chase Bromstedt, Mariano Fazio and Henry Sach earned all-conference second-team accolades, while Malik Henry-Scott was also an all-rookie team selection.

"All of the guys that earned those awards worked very hard for them," McIntosh said.  "They've been consistent throughout the year with their performance and training, and when you have team success individual accolades follow.  These guys didn't set out to win awards, they set out to win every game, and then a by-product of their commitment to the team and the way we want to play is them wining individual awards and that is what we want for our program."

For their success the coaches, including Tom McIntosh, Jose Robles, Chase Robertson, Owen McCorkle and Raudel Fierro-Perez were named as The American Coaching Staff of the Year.

"I've been fortunate to have this group of assistant coaches," McIntosh said.  "All of them have done their role and gone beyond in terms of their commitment level throughout the pandemic and season.  I've been fortunate over the years to have really good assistant coaches and this group has been exceptional.  It isn't any different than our players – we set out to find a way to win and a by-product of that commitment has been us winning this award.  This staff has made an incredibly positive impact on me and the players, I'm thankful for these guys and happy for them because they deserve all the credit."

Meinhard, a forward from Tartu, Estonia, has started in all eight games played, missing the last two contests this season due to injury.  Meinhard has a team-best seven goals, five of which were game-winners, 15 points and 33 shots.  He ranks first in the nation in game-winning goals, sixth in goals per game (0.88), seventh in shots per game (4.12), 12th in total goals, 15th in points per game (1.88) and 31st in total points.  Among the league's best he ranks first in goals, points and game-winners, and is third in shots.  Meinhard was named The American Offensive Player of the Week twice and Rookie of the Week twice, as well as was tabbed to the College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer National Teams of the Week a combined three times.

Meinhard marks the first Tulsa player to be named The American Offensive Player of the Year and second Rookie of the Year honoree as Juan Sanchez picked up the honor in 2015.  He is also the fourth AAC first-team all-conference selection.

A senior midfielder from Parkville, Mo., Bromstedt has been a four-year starter for the Golden Hurricane.  This season he has started in eight of nine games, recorded one assist and attempted six shots.

Fazio, a junior defender from Sevilla, Spain, and Sach, a junior defender from Benitachell, Spain, both have started all 10 games this year.  The duo has been instrumental in TU recording five shutouts, while Fazio tallied the game-winning goal against USF.

A freshman forward from Plano, Texas, Henry-Scott has started in all 10 contests.  He has earned two assists and attempted 12 shots, seven of which were on goal.
