Henry Sach, Chase Bromstedt and Alex Meinhard all drilled in their penalty kicks to give Tulsa a 3-1 advantage in the shootout and advance the Golden Hurricane to the American Athletic Conference Championship after tying Temple, 1-1, on Thursday afternoon at the UCF Soccer and Track Complex in Orlando, Fla.  The Golden Hurricane moved to 6-3-2 on the season, while the Owls moved to 5-4-2 overall.

"I am just proud of the whole team," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said.  "We had to play guys because of injuries, including Alvaro Torrijos, who scored a tremendous goal and helped us out in possession and helped connect the team.  Our back line has so much quality – Til Zinnhardt and Mariano Fazio were good in possession, Chase Bromstedt and Rooks Hunter were good moving forward, and Lucas Cline, although he didn't have a lot to do in the first half, made a huge save on the free kick late in the game and then saved two out of three penalty kicks.  We are happy and we'll enjoy this, but then we need to get ourselves rested and ready for Saturday."

Cline came up huge in the shootout, stopping the first attempt taken by Pierre Cayet, while Sach put his attempt into the back of the net.  Amir Cohen's attempt bounced off the crossbar, but Bromstedt scored his to give Tulsa a 2-0 lead.  Cline again saved the third attempt taken by Brady O'Conner, followed by Ben Barkley who missed high right.  Fabian Grant punched his attempt into the back of the net to make it 2-1, but Meinhard took the final attempt that was needed to give the Golden Hurricane a 3-1 lead, putting them in the championship game.

Tulsa will return to action in The American Championship on Saturday, April 17 beginning at 6:00 pm at the UCF Stadium.  TU will face the winner of the UCF-SMU semifinal game.

This will be the Golden Hurricane's fourth appearance in the title game, but first since 2016.  Tulsa has won three titles, 2014, 2015 and 2016, all by shootout.  TU has played in 11 games that have gone into a shootout and has advanced or claimed the title in nine of those contests.  Five of those shootouts came in The American, with the Hurricane advancing or claiming the title in each instance.

Torrijos netted his first collegiate goal at the 50:53 mark.  Marcos Moreno took the corner kick and Barkley one-timed it back to Torrijos who scored from right to left from 18 yards out.  Jalen Campbell evened the score at the 73:24 mark off a combination from Mickael Borger and Amir Cohen.  Neither team found the back of the net in the final 16:36 of regulation or either 10-minute overtime period to force the game into a penalty kick shootout.

Tulsa had a 10-8 lead in shots, while both teams had three shots on goal, and Temple had a 7-6 edge in corner kicks.

Bromstedt, Barkley and Jonathan Cervantes all had a team-best two shots, while four others had one attempt.  Cline logged all 110 minutes in goal and picked up two saves, as well as three saves in the shootout.
