Mariano Fazio and Alex Meinhard both netted a goal to give Tulsa a 2-1 win over Creighton on Thursday night at Morrison Stadium in Omaha, Neb.  The Golden Hurricane moved to 1-0 on the season, while the Bluejays fell to 0-1 overall.

"We've been working on creating chances from different spots and different people and I think we did that tonight," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said.  "It was a good run by Alvaro Torrijos and a great finish by Mariano Fazio for the first goal, and Alex Meinhard had a really good finish for the second goal."

"Creighton is a good passing team and they are dangerous wide, but our guys did a good job of nullifying that strength to the best of their ability.  I thought we defended the danger zone very well and showed tremendous mentality because it could have been very frustrating in the first half with not getting a goal.  Sometimes you have to work a long time to put one away and our guys showed a lot of stamina, both mentally and physically."

Torrijos placed the ball at Fazio's feet at the six-yard box and he one-timed the ball into the back of the net from left to right, putting the Golden Hurricane on the board at the 76:34 mark.  Meinhard found the back of the net in the 83rd minute to give TU a two-goal cushion.

Manu Toledano got one back for the Bluejays as he drilled in a penalty kick with just 1:05 left in the contest, but Creighton was unable to get the equalizer for the final score.

Tulsa had a 17-13 advantage in shots, including an 11-5 lead in shots on goal, and a 10-6 edge in corner kicks.

Meinhard had a team-best seven shots, five of which were on goal, while Malik Henry-Scott had four attempts and Fazio had two.  Alex Lopez logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up four saves.

Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, August 29 against Omaha beginning at 7:00 pm at Caniglia Field in Omaha, Neb.
