Tulsa Volleyball to Start Conference Play at Houston, Tulane

9/22/2021 12:25:00 PM | Volleyball

TULSA, Okla. ― Coming off back-to-back wins at the Redhawks Invitational, the Tulsa volleyball team is set to start their American Athletic Conference slate this weekend on the road against Houston on Friday, September 24 at 7 pm and Tulane on Sunday, September 26 at 2 pm. Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.

The Golden Hurricane went 2-1 last weekend in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, dropping the opening match to Southeast Missouri State before sweeping Central Arkansas and beating Southern Illinois in four sets. Tulsa sits at 5-4 on the year currently.

Houston posted a 10-2 non-conference record and are the only team in the AAC to reach double digits. The Cougars have recorded wins against notable opponents such as Oregon State, Oklahoma, and Mississippi State so far this season.

During last year's altered season, Houston won both matchups in four sets against Tulsa at the Reynolds Center last spring.

Tulane currently sits at 7-5 and will take on Wichita State in Houston on Friday, September 24 at 2 pm due to Hurricane Ida. The Green Wave hold the second-best hitting percentage in the conference at .228, only behind UCF.

Kayley Cassaday and Avery Kalsu are coming off Redhawks Invitational All-Tournament Team honors this past weekend. Cassaday leads the Hurricane with 138 kills while Kalsu, who stepped into a bigger role during the Tulsa Invitational, will look to build off her 49-assist game against Southern Illinois.
