TULSA, Okla. ― The Tulsa women's tennis team will host The Hurricane Invite this weekend, January 15-16, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center to open the 2022 spring season. It will be the second invitational Tulsa has hosted after hosting Central Arkansas, Houston, and Wichita State back in November.
Â
This weekend, Tulsa will host Montana State, Louisiana Tech and Wyoming. The Hurricane is slated to play Montana State Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. before squaring off with Louisiana Tech in singles play during the afternoon. On Sunday morning, Tulsa will play doubles against Louisiana Tech before wrapping up the invite against Wyoming right after.
Â
The Hurricane will look to build off an impressive fall season. Tulsa posted a 50-20 record in singles play, and 20-12 in doubles play. At the Hurricane Invite in November, Tulsa dominated singles play, tallying a 20-0 record over the three teams.
Â
The freshman duo of Ana Naranjo Martinez and Lily Hutchings finished the fall season 6-2 in doubles play and claimed the doubles championship at the HEB Invitational in October, while the tandems of Valeryia Rozenkova/Maria Berlanga Bandera and Laia Conde Monfort/Shura Poppe both made it the round of 16 at the ITA Central Regional Championships last fall.
Â
Play is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning, with afternoon play beginning 30 minutes following the morning session. On Sunday, play will begin at 9 a.m. with doubles play before going straight into the next session at 10 a.m. All matches will be played indoors.
