Tulsa Downs Montana State to Open The Hurricane Invite

TULSA, Okla. ― The Tulsa women's tennis team defeated Montana State 7-0 on Saturday morning at The Hurricane Invite to open the spring season 1-0.

Tulsa started off the match with three doubles wins, as Valeryia Rozenkova/Maria Berlanga defeated Van Baelen/Cuquerella 6-2, while Laia Conde Monfort/Shura Poppe defeated Chen/Lerma 6-1. Lily Hutchings/Ana Naranjo Martinez defeated Jayasaputra/Villarejo 6-1 as well.

The Golden Hurricane dominated on the singles side, winning every set over the Bobcats 12-0. Monfort, who is ranked No. 91 in the the most recent ITA Singles Rankings, didn't play against Montana State, moving up everyone one slot. Poppe, who took over in the first slot, defeated Van Baelen 6-4, 6-4, while Berlanga and Rozenkova both beat their opponents 6-3, 6-3.

Tulsa will play Louisiana Tech in singles play this afternoon and finish the dual tomorrow morning with doubles play before finishing up The Hurricane Invite against Wyoming tomorrow.
