TULSA, Okla. ― Coming off a successful three-win weekend, the Tulsa women's tennis team will host the Kansas Jayhawks on Friday, January 21st at 1 p.m. at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The Golden Hurricane started the spring season last weekend, hosting Montana State, Louisiana Tech, and Wyoming in The Hurricane Invite. Tulsa dominated the invite, winning all three duals, cumulating a 17-1 record in singles play and 8-1 record in doubles play, to start the season 3-0.
The duo of Maria Berlanga/Valeryia Rozenkova shined during the snowy weekend, including 6-0 doubles win over Wyoming. The tandem has now won their past five doubles matches and went a combined 5-0 in singles play.
Tulsa freshman Berlanga, Lily Hutchings, Ana Naranjo Martinez and Leonor Oliveira all tallied impressive dual match debuts. Berlanga and Oliveira both went 3-0 in singles play, while Hutchings compiled a 2-0 singles record. Hutchings and Martinez, the No. 3 doubles team, went 2-1 over the weekend.
Friday's match will be the first dual match for the Jayhawks after competing at the San Diego Invitational last weekend, where they won nine total events. KU is the first of four Big 12 opponents Tulsa will compete against this season (Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, K-State).
Tulsa leads the all-time series against Kansas 15-11 dating back to 1977, including an 11-match win streak from 2007-2017. However, the Jayhawks have won the past four meetings, including a 4-3 victory over the Hurricane last January at the Case Tennis Center.
