TULSA, Okla. ― After four home wins to start the season, the Tulsa women's tennis team heads east to Chapel Hill, North Carolina to compete in the ITA Kickoff Weekend on Friday, January 28 and Saturday, January 29.

The annual ITA Kickoff Weekend is hosted by 15 programs and is a 60-team format. The host sites were determined by the 2021 year-end rankings, while the remaining teams, including Tulsa, were selected during the ITA Kickoff Weekend Draft.

The Hurricane will compete at the North Carolina site, along with Oregon, Charlotte, and North Carolina. The Tar Heels are ranked No. 2 in the latest ITA Rankings that came out this morning.

Tulsa will take on Oregon on Friday at 9 am (CT) at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center, home of the North Carolina Tar Heels. Oregon is 1-0 on the season, beating Portland State earlier this month before having its next two matches postponed.

The winner of Tulsa-Oregon will take on the winner of North Carolina-Charlotte in the championship match on Saturday, while the consolation match will feature the two defeated teams from Friday.

Tulsa is 4-0 to start the season, including a 5-2 victory over the Kansas Jayhawks last week. The Hurricane are 21-3 in singles play so far, and 10-2 in doubles play this spring.

Yesterday, Laia Conde Monfort was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week for her hot start to the season. The Castelló, Spain native is 3-0 in singles play, all from the No. 1 position, and 4-0 in doubles play alongside partner Shura Poppe.
