Tulsa Splits Matches on Final Day of Hurricane Invite

TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa women's tennis (2-1) split its matches on the second day of the Hurricane Invitational, earning a 4–3 win over Louisiana Tech (2-1) before narrowly falling to Wyoming (3-2) by the same score.
Tulsa opened the morning by finishing doubles play against Louisiana Tech, claiming the doubles point to secure the victory. Lilitha Ndungane and Erin McKenzie recorded the first doubles win with a dominant 6–1 performance, while Tayla Wilmot and Isabella Basson dropped a 6–1 decision. Maria Santos and Coral Valle sealed the doubles point and the match for Tulsa with a 6–4 win in the final doubles contest.
In the final match of the Hurricane Invite, the Cowgirls claimed the doubles point by taking two of three matches. Tulsa earned its lone doubles win at No. 2, where Coral Valle and Maria Santos defeated Eugenia Ceinos and Dilnaz Mashabayeva, 6–3. Wyoming secured the point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Wyoming earned singles victories at the top three spots to secure the overall win. Kochelaevskaia defeated Isabella Basson at No. 1, while Bijlsma and Borodina picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
Alice Baba delivered a three-set victory at No. 4 singles for Tulsa, rallying past Mashabayeva, 4–6, 6–2, 11–9. Uta Asakura added a straight-set win at No. 5 singles, 6–2, 6–4. Wyoming forfeited in the sixth slot, giving the point to Tulsa.
Tulsa will look to bounce back against Missouri State and Abeline Christian next weekend on Jan. 24 and 25 in the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
