Tulsa Primed for ITA Kickoff Weekend in Fort Worth

TULSA, Okla. ― Following back-to-back wins last weekend over Purdue and Illinois State, the Tulsa men's tennis team will trek south to continue its spring season in Fort Worth, Texas, as part of the ITA Kickoff Weekend.

The annual ITA Kickoff Weekend is hosted by 15 host sites and is a 60-team format. The host sites were determined by the 2021 year-end rankings, while the remaining teams, including Tulsa, were selected during the ITA Kickoff Weekend Draft.

The Hurricane will play at the TCU host site along with TCU, Portland, and AAC foe Wichita State. Tulsa is slated to face the Shockers on Saturday, January 29 at 11 am, and will face either TCU or Portland on Sunday depending on results.

Wichita State is 3-0 on the season, tallying wins over Saint Louis, Oral Roberts, and Purdue. TCU, who is ranked No. 4 in the latest ITA Rankings that came out yesterday, is 2-1, beating No. 1 Florida before dropping to No. 4 Tennessee, while Portland will be making its spring debut.

Tulsa is 2-1 this spring, beating Purdue 6-1 and Illinois State 7-0 last Saturday. The Hurricane are led by Kody Pearson, who is 3-0 this season in singles play from the No 1. position, and is part of the No. 60 doubles team alongside Connor Di Marco.

The duo of Daniel Siddall/Tom Thelwall-Jones are 3-0 on the doubles season, including a 6-4 over Illinois State in the No. 1 doubles position. Tulsa is 6-2 in doubles this spring, and 13-5 in singles.
