
Tulsa Hosts South Florida on Saturday for Coaches vs. Cancer Game

TULSA, Okla. –– The University of Tulsa men's basketball team welcomes South Florida to the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Saturday evening for the annual Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers game.
Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m. (CT) on ESPN+. Josh Haley will provide the play-by-play, and Bryndon Manzer will serve as the analyst for the matchup. Fans can also catch Bruce Howard and J.R. Rollo on Big Country 99.5 FM.
For more than 25 years, the Coaches vs. Cancer program, in collaboration with the National Association of Basketball Coaches, has united coaches and fans nationwide to help the American Cancer Society defeat a common enemy – cancer. Tulsa will collect donations online ahead of time and at the game and there will be a sign-making station for cancer survivors and those affected by cancer. Both Tulsa and South Florida basketball staffs will wear sneakers.

The Golden Hurricane (6-12, 0-7 The American) return after a difficult trip to New Orleans, where Tulsa lost to the Green Wave 97-63 on Wednesday evening.
Tulane came out strong from the opening tip as its hot shooting buried the Hurricane. Tulane shot 60 percent from the field and 64 percent from 3-point range. The Green Wave also capitalized on 16 Tulsa turnovers, converting them into 24 points while Tulsa only scored four points off turnovers and had only a solitary steal, courteous LaDavius Draine.
Sam Griffin led Tulsa with 21 points and knocked down five 3-pointers for the third time this season. Griffin also dished out five assists. Rey Idowu was the only other Tulsa player in double figures as he finished with 10 points. Draine pulled down a team-high five rebounds to go along with his five points.
South Florida (6-12, 1-5 AAC) has lost its last two leading into Saturday's matchup and have dropped six of its past seven dating back to Christmas day. Most recently, South Florida, while missing a few players, lost to SMU on Wednesday 75-55 at home. Caleb Murphy (14), Jamir Chaplin (11) and Javon Greene (10) scored in double figures in the loss.
Tulsa and South Florida will meet for the 11th time on Saturday with the Bulls still seeking its first win in the series. The Hurricane are 5-0 in the series in the Reynolds Center, winning the matchups by an average of 9.2 points.
The teams last met in Tampa, Fla. on Jan. 6, 2021, where the Hurricane would win 61-51. Darien Jackson scored 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting with four rebounds in the win, while Idowu scored eight points.
Jeriah Horne averages 16.4 points per game to pace the Hurricane. He also leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 7.0 a night. His 5.6 defensive rebounds per game leads the conference while he is second in overall rebounds per game.
Griffin averages 15.8 points a game. Horne and Griffin are fourth and fifth in the conference for scoring. The two of them have combined to hit 79 3-pointers this season.
Caleb Murphy paces the Bulls with 12.1 points per game. Greene is the only other South Florida player to average double figures, scoring 10.5 a night. Russel Tchewa leads the squad in rebounding (5.6 per game), while Chaplin and Greene both average 4.6.
Although South Florida has lost six of its past seven, Chaplin has scored in double figures in double figures in six of those seven games as well.
After Saturday's game, the Golden Hurricane travel to Wichita, Kan. to face-off with longtime rival Wichita State. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. (CT) on Tuesday and the game will air live on ESPNU.
