
Tulsa Beats Oregon to Advance to Championship Match

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Tulsa women's tennis team improved to 5-0 on the season after beating the Oregon Ducks 4-2 on day one of the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
The Hurricane, who are competing at the North Carolina host site, jumped off to a fast start, winning the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead. Lily Hutchings and Ana Naranjo Martinez struck first, defeating Oregon at the No. 3 position 6-3. The duo of Maria Berlanga/Valeryia Rozenkova closed it out minutes later, defeating Oregon's No. 1 position to take the doubles point. The tandem of Laia Conde Monfort/Shura Poppe had a 5-3 advantage at the No. 2 position before it being retired.
In singles play, Leonor Oliveira, who was slotted in the No. 6 position, won on straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. The Lisbon, Portugal native is now 5-0 in singles play this season. Berlanga followed her up with a singles win in straight sets as well, giving Tulsa a 3-0 lead.
After Oregon won on court five and four to make it a 3-2 match, Poppe clinched the match, claiming her third singles win of the season after beating Lillian Mould 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 to give Tulsa its fifth victory of the season.
The Hurricane advance to Saturday's Championship match at 3:30 pm ET (2:30 CT) against the winner of No. 2 North Carolina and Charlotte.
