Kalsu Passes Major Milestone In 3-2 loss To Wichita State

Junior setter Avery Kalsu of Dripping Springs, Texas, recorded her 1,000th career assist during The University of Tulsa volleyball team's five set loss (25-20, 25-22, 15-25, 18-25, 12-15) to the Wichita State Shockers Wednesday on the road in Wichita.
 
The two-year letterwinner recorded 27 assists in the loss to increase her team-leading total to 354 on the year. She also chipped 13 digs to pick up her eighth double-double of the season.
 
Wednesday's loss dropped the Golden Hurricane's record to 9-9 overall and 2-4 in AAC action.
 
The Tulsa offense was led by outside hitter Kayley Cassaday, who notched 20 kills on the day and averaged 13 attacks per set.
 
Outside hitter Lauren Eitler boosted the Hurricane with 14 kills and 18 digs to land her sixth double-double of the season.
 
On the defensive end, libero Marta Pecalli produced 27 digs at an average of 5.4 digs per set to go with three blocks from middle blocker Rachel Brown.
 
Tulsa will travel to Ohio next to play the Cincinnati Bearcats (4-12, 2-4 AAC) on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 12:30 p.m.
 
Game Notes
» Avery Kalsu needed only two assists to reach the 1,000 career assists mark. She secured the milestone and would finish the day with a team-high 27 assists.
» Tulsa had three players with double figures in kills.
» Tulsa had three players with double figures in digs.
» Arianna Mongare was efficient in attacking situations in the match, accumulating a career-high 10 kills while hitting .667.
» Tulsa never trailed on the way to winning the first set 25-20.

How It Happened
 
SET 1 | The Hurricane grabbed control on the first point and never trailed to win the first set 25-20. Tulsa led by as many as nine points at 19-10 before closing out the set, collecting 16 kills along the way.
 
SET 2 | Tulsa won set two 25-22 to quickly take a 2-0 lead. The Hurricane took control of the lead early on at 3-2 and never trailed. Tulsa led by as many as six points at 19-13 before closing out the set, collecting 21 kills on the way to the set win.
 
SET 3 | Wichita State avoided a sweep with a 25-15 third-set victory to make it a 2-1 match. Tulsa trailed by as many as 11 points as Wichita State grabbed the advantage for good at 8-7 in a set that was tied up four times before the Shockers took over the lead.
 
SET 4 | Tulsa then dropped its second straight set 25-18 to bring the match level at two sets apiece. The Hurricane trailed by as many as eight points as Wichita State grabbed the advantage for good at 11-10. The set was tied up five times before the Shockers took over in the second half of the stanza.
 
SET 5 | Tulsa won the first two sets but could not hold off the Wichita State comeback. The Hurricane came up short in a back-and-forth set five, losing 15-12 in a stanza that featured three lead changes and eight tie scores. Neither team led by more than three points in the set.
