Kalsu Secures Triple-Double In 3-1 Loss To Cincinnati

Cincinnati, Ohio — Junior setter Avery Kalsu recorded her first-career triple-double during The University of Tulsa volleyball team's 3-1 loss (21-25, 18-25, 25-16, 20-25) to the Cincinnati Bearcats Sunday on the road in Ohio.
 
The fifth-consecutive loss dropped Tulsa's record to 9-10 overall and 2-5 in AAC action.
 
Kalsu, a native of Dripping Springs, Texas, flexed her all-around talent as she finished the day with 14 assists, 13 digs and a career-high 12 kills.
 
Outside hitter Kayley Cassaday and middle blocker Arianna Mongare each added eight kills to go with 21 assists from setter Brayden Hipp.
 
On the defensive side, libero Marta Pecalli notched 18 digs, and outside hitter Bailey Rowe landed a team-high three blocks.
 
Tulsa will remain on the road next week as the Hurricane will visit Tulane (6-12, 1-6 AAC) on Friday, Oct. 21, and Houston (16-2, 7-0 AAC) on Sunday, Oct. 23.
 
Game Notes
» Tulsa had three players in double figures in digs.
» Avery Kalsu had a team-high two service aces in the loss.
» Tulsa never trailed on the way to winning the third set 25-16.
 
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Hurricane fell in a back-and-forth first set, losing 25-21 in a game that featured four lead changes and seven tie scores. Neither team led by more than four points in the match.
 
SET 2 | Tulsa dropped set two 25-18, digging a 2-0 hole in the match. Tulsa trailed by as many as nine points as Cincinnati grabbed the advantage for good at 12-11 in a set that was tied up three times before the Bearcats took over the lead.
 
SET 3 | Tulsa stayed alive after a win in set three to make it a 2-1 match. The Hurricane led from the opening point on in the set to earn a 25-16 victory. Tulsa opened up as much as an 11-point lead at 14-3 before closing out the set. The Tulsa offense also got a boost from four service aces in the stanza.
 
SET 4 | Tulsa could not keep the rally going and fell in the fourth set 25-20 to drop the match. Cincinnati grabbed the advantage for good at 13-12, and Tulsa was never able to recover in a set that was knotted up six times before the Bearcats took over the lead.
