Tulsa Volleyball Enjoys 17th Win in Last 18 Matches with Road Sweep at UAB

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Tulsa (17-3, 7-1 American) defeated UAB (8-12, 1-7 American) in straight sets for a second time this season, 33-31, 25-21, 25-19, Thursday afternoon on the Blazers' home court.
Tulsa has now won 14 consecutive matches against UAB, improving the all-time series to 17-3. The Golden Hurricane have also now won 17 of their last 18 matches this season and have emerged victorious in 20 of their last 25 outings dating back to the end of last season.
The first set between Tulsa and UAB was closely contested, with neither team able to maintain a significant lead. Tulsa started strong with Beth Bayless securing the initial point through a kill. She would finish with eight kills in the first set alone. The teams exchanged points frequently, with UAB's Jorda Crook and Mia Reese making impactful plays to keep the score tight. Tulsa's Jill Hanson was pivotal in the later stages, contributing multiple kills, including one to level the score at 30-30. The set concluded with Maegan Mills and Hanson delivering crucial kills, leading Tulsa to a narrow 33-31 victory.
Tulsa claimed the second set against UAB with a 25-21 victory, highlighted by a late surge to seal the win. Mills and Lauren Eitler each contributed key kills early on, while Kat Cooper and Bayless continued to apply pressure with their offense. A pivotal moment occurred when Hanson and Eitler combined for a block, putting Tulsa ahead 18-17. As the set drew to a close, Eitler and Cooper teamed up for a decisive block against Crook, securing the final point and the set victory for Tulsa.
Tulsa secured a 25-19 victory in the third set against UAB, showcasing a strong offensive performance. After an initial tie at 4-4, Tulsa captured momentum with a series of kills and blocks, highlighted by Hanson's kill that pushed the lead to 11-8. Brayden Hipp was instrumental, contributing several assists, including a pivotal one to Cooper, which extended the lead to 12-9. Despite a series of exchanges, Tulsa maintained their lead, with Eitler delivering a decisive kill to bring the score to 24-18. Hipp clinched the set with a setter dump kill, concluding Tulsa's win.
Tulsa will return home to the Donald W. Reynolds Center to face off against North Texas at 6 p.m. on Friday, October 24.

The Tulsa Volleyball team is looking for ball kids for the 2025 season. Ball kids and one accompanying parent or guardian will receive free admission for games they sign up for. Ball kids will retrieve balls that go out of bounds on the sidelines for the entire game and provide a fresh ball for servers. Only ages 10-12 are allowed to participate. Individual and group signups will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign up by clicking HERE.
