
Tulsa Volleyball Falls In Five Sets to SMU

TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa volleyball team took it to five sets but could not hold on, falling 3-2 (25-19, 20-25, 23-25, 25-21, 12-15) to the SMU Mustangs Friday night at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
The loss dropped the Golden Hurricane's record to 9-7 overall and 2-2 in AAC action.
Tulsa was led by double-doubles from outside hitter Lauren Eitler and setter Avery Kalsu. Eitler finished with 15 kills and a career-high 19 digs on the day, while Kalsu finished with 18 assists and a team-high 22 digs.
Kayley Cassaday also added 20 kills to help the offense.
On the defensive end, libero Marta Pecalli chipped in 22 digs to go with three blocks from Bailey Rowe.
Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 9 to face to the Memphis Tigers (12-6, 2-3 AAC) at 1 p.m.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Hurricane earned a set-one victory 25-19 helped by a solid showing on the attacking end. Tulsa put together a .343 attack percentage with 14 kills in the set victory.
SET 2 | Tulsa fell in set two 25-20 to tie the match 1-1. SMU grabbed the advantage for good at 14-13 in a set that was tied up eight times before the Mustangs took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 3 | Tulsa fell again in set three to make it a 2-1 deficit. The Hurricane could not hang on in a back-and-forth battle, losing 25-23 in a set that featured three lead changes and was tied nine times. Neither team had a lead of more than four points along the way.
SET 4 | Tulsa broke its two-set losing streak and forced a fifth set with a 25-21 victory in set four. The Hurricane took the lead for good at 16-15 in a set that had just one lead change before the Hurricane took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 5 | After dropping sets two and three, Tulsa won set four, tying things up at 2-2 to force a fifth set, but could not complete the comeback, losing the set 15-12 and the match 3-2. The Hurricane had a lead early in the set at 4-3 before SMU took over.
