Tulsa Wraps Up Home Schedule With Mid-Week Match, Senior Day

TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa volleyball team (12-15, 5-10 AAC) will wrap up the home slate of the 2022 season against American Athletic Conference foes Wichita State (14-12, 9-6 AAC) and Cincinnati (8-18, 6-10 AAC) in the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

First, the Golden Hurricane will take on Wichita State on Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 6 p.m. Then, Tulsa will honor graduate student defensive specialist Maddie Flora before Friday's Senior Day match with Cincinnati slated for 1 p.m.

Flora, who medically retired for the season after the Wichita State match in October, finished her career at Tulsa as a five-time letterwinner. After redshirting her freshman year in 2017, the Webster, Texas native went on to appear in 410 sets in 115 total matches for the Golden Hurricane. She concluded her career with 840 digs, 59 assists and 34 service aces.

Through 12 weeks of competition, Tulsa remains the nation's leader in two statistical categories––team digs per set at 18.51 and team attacks per set at 39.93. Tulsa's total number of digs––1,907––is the 12th-highest mark in the country.

In The American, Tulsa ranks first in digs (1,907), digs per set (18.51), and team attacks per set (39.93). The Hurricane also ranks among the top half of the league in several other categories–– fourth in kills per set (12.74), assists (1,221), assists per set (11.85) and fifth in kills (1,312).

Senior outside hitter Kayley Cassaday leads The American with 450 kills and 1,423 total attacks. She also ranks second in the conference for kills per set (4.37), total points scored (489) and points per set (4.75).

Cassaday leads the country in attacks per set with an average of 13.82. Nationally, she is also second for total attacks (1,423), 13th for total kills (450), 16th for total points scored (489) and 33rd for points per set (4.75).

Sophomore libero Marta Pecalli ranks second in the conference with 4.96 digs per set and third with 511 digs … She ranks fifth for service aces (31) and 10th for service aces per set (0.30). In the nation, Pecalli ranks 24th for digs per set (4.96) and 29th for total digs (511).

Wednesday will mark the second meeting between Tulsa and Wichita State this season. Back in October, the Shockers came from behind to defeat the Hurricane 3-2. The overall series sits in Wichita State's favor at 37-14, who have won the last six meetings.

In The American, Wichita State is third for blocks (225), third for blocks per set (2.25), fourth for hitting percentage (.221) and fifth for opponent hitting percentage (.203). Setter Kayce Litzau is third in the conference in assists (975) and assists per set (9.75). Outside hitter Brylee Kelly leads the Shocker attack with 325 kills and 3.25 kills per set on the year.

Last week, Wichita State took down Tulane (8-19, 3-13 AAC) 3-1 before losing in straight sets to No. 23 Houston (25-2, 16-0 AAC).

Tulsa and Cincinnati will meet for a second time this season. In October, Tulsa could not keep up with the Bearcats, falling 3-1 in Cincinnati. The Bearcats currently lead the series 12-3

The Bearcats are fifth in the league for assists per set (11.33). Setter Caroline Endres leads the Cincinnati offense with 638 assists and ranks fifth in the conference with an average of 9.25 assists per set. Libero Payton Frederick fortifies the defense with 359 digs at 3.66 digs per set.

Last week, Cincinnati was swept 3-0 by No. 24 UCF after winning 3-1 at South Florida (9-17, 3-11 AAC).
