
Tulsa Drops 3-1 Decision To Wichita State

TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa volleyball team fell 3-1 (19-25, 25-21, 21-25, 17-25) to the Wichita State Shockers (15-12, 10-6 AAC) Wednesday night at home in the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
The loss dropped the Golden Hurricane's record to 12-16 overall and 5-11 in AAC action.
Despite the loss, two Tulsa players put up strong numbers throughout the match. They were outside hitter Kayley Cassaday, who registered 20 kills and 12 digs on the day, and setter Avery Kalsu, who put up 37 assists and 18 digs. Right-side hitter Jolana Smidlova also added nine kills to help the attack.
On the defensive end, Marta Pecalli tied the team-high with 18 digs to go with four blocks from middle blocker Arianna Mongare.
Tulsa will return to action on Friday, Nov. 18, to host Senior Day before the last home match of the year against Cincinnati (8-18, 6-10 AAC) at 1 p.m.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Hurricane found itself in an early hole, dropping a tough first set 25-19. Tulsa trailed by as many as six points as Wichita State grabbed the advantage for good at 8-7 in a set that was tied up four times before the Shockers took control.
SET 2 | Tulsa rallied from a first-set loss to take the second set 25-21, evening the match at 1-1. The Hurricane grabbed the advantage for good at 11-10 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Tulsa took over the lead.
SET 3 | Wichita State took a 2-1 match lead after defeating Tulsa 25-21 in the third set. The Hurricane lost the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before falling in the set.
SET 4 | Tulsa then lost the fourth set 25-17 to finish off the match. The Hurricane trailed by as many as eight points as Wichita State grabbed the advantage for good at 4-3. Tulsa was not able to recover in a set that was tied up eight times before the Shockers took over.
