TULSA, Okla. ––
The visiting ORU Golden Eagles claimed the Mayor's Cup with a 77-66 win over Tulsa Saturday afternoon in front of 4,662 fans at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

ORU's Max Abmas scored a game-high 28 points, while Tulsa had four double-figure scorers. Bryant Selebangue led the Golden Hurricane with 15 points and 12 rebounds, his third double-double of the season. Brandon Betson scored 14, Anthony Pritchard added 12 and Sam Griffin put up 11 points. Griffin also dished out a team-leading four assists.

Tulsa cut ORU's 10-point lead to three points at the 3:38 mark of the second half, but the Golden Eagles closed the game on a 10-2 run to put the game away.

ORU took advantage of 13 Tulsa turnovers, scoring 21 points, while the Hurricane managed three points off five ORU turnovers. Tulsa also left free points at the charity stripe, shooting just 9-17 (52.9 percent) from the foul line. The two squads were close to even from the floor, with ORU edging out Tulsa 42.3 percent to 41 percent. Oral Roberts also hit on nine of its 36 3-point attempts (25.0 percent), and the Hurricane finished 7-21 (33.3 percent) from deep.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Golden Eagles took a 36-33 into halftime as Abmas knocked down a 3-pointer as time ran out to break a 33-33 tie. Abmas led all scorers in the first half with 14 points.

The biggest lead of the first half was five points when ORU led 21-16 at the 10:12 mark. Tulsa outscored the Golden Eagles over the next 5:23 to take a 25-23 lead with 5:01 remaining in the first half.

ORU had a 3-point lead heading into the final minute of the first half before Tulsa's Betson hit a 3-pointer at the 0:46 mark. A Tulsa 3-popint attempt with 0:07 left missed before Abmas put the Golden Eagles up at intermission.

ORU led for 13:44 of the first half as the Golden Eagle made 6-of-19 three-pointers, while 11 of Tulsa's field goals were two-pointers and just three treys. The Hurricane out-rebounded ORU 28-20 in the first 20 minutes but made just 2-of-7 free throws.

Selebangue and Griffin led Tulsa's first-half scorers with 7 points, while Selebangue also had a game-high 7 rebounds.

In the first six minutes of the second half, ORU jumped out to a 49-41 lead at the 14:04 mark and pushed it to 11 with just under 13 minutes to play. The teams traded buckets for a while, with neither able to go on a run.

With the Golden Eagles leading 65-55 at the 6:39 mark, Tulsa made one last run. Griffin got things started with a triple to cut the lead to seven. After a few missed opportunities on both ends, Griffin split a pair of free throws. ORU made a layup to push the lead back to eight, but a laup and an old-fashioned 3-point play from Betson got the lead down to 67-64 with 3:38 to play.

That was as close as Tulsa would get, as the Hurricane only scored two more points, a layup with five seconds left, and ORU escaped with the win.
