Poppe Clinches Win over Temple on Senior Day

TULSA, Okla. ― Lone Tulsa senior Shura Poppe, who came into the day with 122 career wins, clinched Tulsa's 12^th home win of the season on senior day, 6-1 over Temple. The Hurricane have now beat four conference opponents and improve to 15-7 this season heading into the American Athletic Conference Championships next week.

Poppe, who was honored before the match, tallied two more wins to an impressive Hurricane career, winning 6-3 at No. 2 doubles alongside Laia Conde Monfort before clinching the win at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 1-6, 6-1. Poppe is 13-3 this spring in doubles play, and 9-6 in singles in dual play.

Maria Berlanga/Valeriya Rozenkova started off the day with a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles. The duo improved to 16-6 this spring, all from No. 1 doubles. Berlanga would also tally a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles. The freshman finishes the regular season 11-9 in singles play this spring.

Monfort, Lily Hutchings, and Lian Benedejcic also tallied singles wins during the regular season finale. TU heads into the conference championship boasting a 69-33 singles record in dual play, and a 43-12 doubles record.

Tulsa will await its draw in next week's conference championship quarterfinals, announced tomorrow morning. As it stands now, Tulsa would slot into the third seed.
