Tulsa Claims Lawless Cup with Win Over Creighton
4/30/2022 1:17:00 PM | Rowing
The Tulsa rowing team claimed the Lawless Cup and earned four first-place finishes over Creighton on Saturday morning at the J. Bird Sr. Shell Nest in Catoosa, Okla. Oklahoma was scheduled to compete in the regatta, but were not able to due to illness.
"We are always happy to have Creighton come out for a race, and today was especially great due to the tight racing in each event," Interim Head Coach Oliva Staff said. "We were able to get all of our athletes a race and we saw improvements from each of our crews. Our 3rd Varsity 8+ had the tightest and closest racing of the day, giving good experience to members of our team that will make a big impact in years to come. We were also able to celebrate our four seniors that have made a huge impact on this team as athletes and leaders. We thank them for all they have done to help better Tulsa Rowing."
"Within our team, we performed consistently in a tough headwind. It was nice to see that we have made strides in our team performance as we head into our training before conference."
Chloe Henderson, Ermioni Lamprianidou, Becky Coleman, Johanna Kristof, Anna Shaw, Karen Undset, Millie Brice, Bass Andre and Kristina Harris turned in a time of 7:31.45 in the title race, the Varsity 8+, to capture the Lawless Cup. The TU boat finished 15.87 seconds ahead of the Bluejays.
The Golden Hurricane's 2nd Varsity 8+ recorded a time of 7:46.84, while CU had a time of 8:01.93, and in the 3rd Varsity 8+, Tulsa earned a 5.9 second win.
In the Varsity 4+ race, Paloma Probart, Chloe Wild, Katherine Stenning, Kyra VanderWeele and Taylor Hopkins registered a time of 8:44.89, more than 13 seconds ahead of Creighton (8:58.31).
The Bluejays won the 2nd Varsity 4+ race with a time of 8:31.92, finishing ahead of TU's boat (8:55.15) and the Golden Hurricane's 3rd Varsity 4+ (9:38.68).
