
Tulsa Volleyball Wins 3-2 Over Sam Houston To Wrap Up Non-Conference Schedule

Waco, Texas — The University of Tulsa volleyball team battled to a 3-2 win (25-16, 24-26, 25-23, 22-25, 15-8) over the Sam Houston Bearkats Friday night during the Baylor Classic to wrap up the non-conference schedule.
The win moves the Golden Hurricane to a 7-5 overall record heading into American Athletic Conference action.
Tulsa was led by outside hitter Bailey Rowe, who had a career night for the Hurricane. The Prosper, Texas native had 23 kills and only three errors in 34 total attacks, giving her a .588 hitting percentage on the night.
Rowe was named Best Attacker on the All-Tournament Team after finishing the weekend with an average hitting percentage of .406.
The Hurricane had three players attain double-doubles in the win: setter Avery Kalsu (31 assists and 15 digs), outside hitter Lauren Eitler (10 kills and 12 digs) and outside hitter Kayley Cassaday (19 kills and 16 digs). Cassaday capped off the night with a career-high 74 total attacks.
Cassaday made the All-Tournament Team after recording 53 kills and averaging 4.83 kills per set over Tulsa's three tournament matches.
On the defensive end, middle blocker Rachel Brown put up a career-high eight blocks to go with 33 digs from libero Marta Pecalli.
Tulsa finished the match with 116 team digs and 22 total blocks.
"It was another crazy defensive battle, and we found a way to pull it out in the end," said Head Volleyball Coach Ryan Wills. "Bailey Rowe stepped up in a major way to help balance out our offense."
"We beat two good teams today. It was a solid way to finish the non-conference schedule. We're on to AAC play with the understanding that this tough schedule prepared us for it."
The Hurricane begins American Athletic Conference action in the Reynolds Center this Friday, September 23 against East Carolina at 7 p.m., and Sunday, September 25 against Temple at 1 p.m.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Hurricane took set one 25-16 thanks to a solid performance on the attacking end. Tulsa put together a .306 attack percentage with 13 kills in the set victory. The Hurricane held as high as a 10-point lead at 24-14 before closing out the set.
SET 2 | Tulsa then lost set two 26-24, evening the match at a set apiece. The Hurricane fell in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured four lead changes and 10 tie scores. Neither team led by more than four points along the way.
SET 3 | Tulsa put the second-set loss in the rearview mirror and took a 2-1 match lead with a 25-23 win in the third set. The offense stepped up in the set as the Hurricane registered a .311 attack percentage with 15 kills. Tulsa opened a 19-13 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there. Tulsa's front row blocked five Sam Houston attacks in the set win.
SET 4 | Tulsa could not finish off a four-set win as the Bearkats escaped with a 25-22 set four victory. Sam Houston grabbed the advantage for good at 5-4 and Tulsa was never able to recover in a set that was knotted up five times before the Bearkats took over the lead.
SET 5 | Tulsa and Sam Houston went back and forth all game, trading set wins until the Hurricane took set five 15-8 and the match. The Hurricane scored first and never trailed in set five to earn the victory. Tulsa ended on a high note, collecting 10 kills without committing an attack error in the process.
