TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa volleyball team (7-5) hosts East Carolina (5-7) and Temple (6-5) at the Donald W. Reynolds Center to open American Athletic Conference action this weekend.

The Golden Hurricane will face ECU on Friday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m. and play Temple (6-5, 0-0) on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m.

The Hurricane heads into conference play leading the country with 20.20 team digs per set and 41.67 team attacks per set while ranking third in the nation with 909 team digs.

Senior outside hitter Kayley Cassaday ranks first in the nation in total attacks (643) and second with 14.29 attacks per set. She also leads The American with 201 kills and 222.5 points scored.

Sophomore libero Marta Pecalli leads The American with 253 digs and ranks fifth in the country with 5.62 digs per set.

The Hurricane holds a 22-2 series advantage over the Pirates. The Pirates rank second in the conference in aces per set (1.64) and third in blocks per set (2.37). Setter Payton Evenstad tops the league in aces per set (0.44) while middle blocker Shaylynn Hall is fourth in blocks per set (1.11) and setter Kenzie Beckham slots fifth in digs per set (3.59).

Last week, the Pirates took losses to Virginia and Maryland before defeating Mercer 3-1.

Tulsa and Temple meet for the 14th time with the Owls holding the series advantage 7-6. The Owls are fifth in the conference in blocks per set (2.22) and seventh in aces per set (1.43). Middle blocker Samantha Jo Mikosky leads The American with 55 blocks at 1.22 blocks per set.

Outside hitter Taylor Davenport ranks second in the league behind Tulsa's Kayley Cassaday in kills (185), averaging 4.02 per set. Davenport is Temple's leading scorer with 205 points scored this season at an average of 4.46 points per set.

Last week, the Owls earned wins over Providence and Penn and took a loss to George Washington.
