Waco, Texas — The University of Tulsa volleyball team totaled 54 kills on the way to a 3-0 victory (25-23, 25-23, 25-13) over the McNeese Cowgirls Friday during the Baylor Classic in Waco.
The out-of-conference win improved the Golden Hurricane's overall record to 6-5 on the season.
The Hurricane was led by a double-double from outside hitter Kayley Cassaday, who registered 19 kills and 10 digs. Tulsa attackers benefitted from 44 assists from setter tandem Avery Kalsu (24) and Brayden Hipp (20).
Outside hitter Lauren Eitler also added nine kills to help the offense.
On the defensive end, libero Marta Pecalli chipped in 26 digs to go with five blocks from middle blocker Rachel Brown.
Tulsa's final match of the Baylor Classic is set for tonight at 5 p.m. against the Sam Houston Bearkats.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Hurricane began the match with a 1-0 lead after taking a tight first set 25-23. Tulsa grabbed the advantage for good at 21-20 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Hurricane took over in the second half of the stanza. The Hurricane's opening set win came in a stanza where 17 of their 25 points came via kills. Tulsa got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked five McNeese attacks in the set win.
SET 2 | Tulsa took the second set 25-23 to promptly take a 2-0 lead. The Hurricane survived a back-and-forth set to win in a stanza that featured two lead changes and eight tie scores. Neither team led by more than three points along the way. The Hurricane racked up 17 more kills over the course of the set.
SET 3 | Tulsa took set three to finish off the match. The Hurricane took control of the set early when the score was 6-5 and never looked back to win 25-13. Tulsa led by as many as 12 points at 22-10 before closing out the stanza, collecting 20 more kills in the process.
